For companies that have to deliver complex customized products in time, effective planning and control enables them to meet the triple constraints; Cost, quality and delivery on time.

There are several challenges to be met for being able to have effective planning and control. For example, long lead items and the link between engineering and production are a challenge for delivery on time. Besides, there is the challenge of having an effective planning organization while being in a scrape between the line and project organization.

Wednesday September 18th EyeOn conducted the idealab Project Planning & Control to discuss the possibilities to deal with these challenges. Attending companies included Fei, Damen Shipyards, Adimec, Vanderlande and ASML.

The following topics passed during this session;
1. What is the position and role of planning in a matrix organization
2. How to manage and control long lead items; Leveraging the risks of obsoletes and materials not available on time.
3. How to plan long term and short term resource availability.

The discussion will be continued in a second session which will be held at the PID2013.
