Food & FMCG roundtable: how to build robust supply chains to deal with these volatile times

On June 14th, EyeOn hosted it’s 12th Food & FMCG roundtable. Topic of the day: how to build robust supply chains to deal with these volatile times.
Interesting academic insights by prof. dr Jack van der Veen (Nijenrode University) , combined with companies best-practices of Bavaria and SmurfitKappa, gave the participants useful guidelines and instruments to take home. EyeOn presented a robustness maturity grid, to plot companies in terms of preparedness, both from pre-incident and post-incident point of view. Often companies tend to be not aware of all the risks and uncertainties they are exposed to, not only from demand perspective but also from supply or even financial perspective. Supply chain managers, by nature, tend to over-rely on models and analysis and “feel save”.
Key take away: the better a company is able to truly collaborate, the more robust it can act, also on unknown unknowns.
